Towing capabilities is the biggest test when considering these trucks, the key element is the tow-vehicle acceleration and climbing requirements, which the SAE modeled on real world roads, is the Davis Dam test, an 11 mile ascent near the dam on the Arizona-Nevada border. Here, a truck has to climb 3000 feet without dropping below 40 mph.

Ford’s pair of Crown Victoria cop car replacements, one based on the Taurus and the other on the Explorer crossover, is being joined by a pickup made for government and fleet customers. It’s a 2013 F-150 pickup equipped with a new Special Service Vehicle package that’s not only aimed at law enforcement and emergency personnel, but also toward commercial customers that require greater versatility. Ford’s only competition in this area, at least for now, is Ram’s Special Service police pickup truck.

Video Preview — 2013 Ford Luxury Trucks

Thanks to pickuptrucks.com I found this video taken at the State Fair of Texas to see Ford’s new F-150 Limited up close and personal. Additionally, I have read reviews about driving the brand-new 2013 Ford Super Duty top of the line Platinum model. Both trucks have all the luxury comforts you could possibly want but are these trucks the best packages to offer when the economy is still weakened? Ford chief Alan Mulally says the expanding number of new gadgets and technologies in cars is actually bringing dealers and customers closer together. As vehicles become more like personal electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops, the relationship between car owners and their local service dealerships is likely to get more closely tied, he says.

As pickups become more electronically sophisticated and the tools needed to troubleshoot and upgrade the trucks become more expensive and proprietary, you can bet technology will bring new vehicle customers and dealerships closer together.
